Finns form language industry leaders' forum

The Association of Finnish Translation Companies SKTOL and KITES, the association of Finnish companies working in the fields of multilingual communication and language technology, have decided to join forces and form a new association of language service providers in 2017.

To discuss potential for co-operation and the future of the language services sector, SKTOL and Kites Association convened a forum of the sector’s leaders. This Leader Forum took place on 26 January 2017.

Finnish language service providers have never met at such a high level to discuss common issues. The historic meeting brought together the key decision-makers of 30 language service providers operating in Finland. They included executives from translation and language technology companies, interpretation services, language schools and universities.

The Leader Forum’s delegates discussed how they could work together to promote and develop the sector and its operating conditions to the advantage of language service providers and their customers as well as the universities that provide training and conduct research. The objective is to increase awareness of the language sector and improve the conditions under which it operates and the international competitiveness of the sector’s businesses.

The language sector plays a central role in the internationalisation of Finnish companies. The LeaderForum’s delegates agreed that there is a need for a new, stronger association and welcomed closerco-operation between all members of the sector on the one hand and the language service companiesproviding jobs to language professionals on the other.
